How to Clean your Bricks, Pavers, Sandstone and More

How to Clean your Bricks, Pavers, Sandstone and More

Cleaning your bricks, paver, sandstone and other porous exterior surfaces is easy with Wet & Forget and Rapid Application Moss and Mould Remover. Read on to see how to use each product. _ IMPORTANT: You cannot use regular Wet & Forget 5L (blue) with the Rapid Application Hose-End (pink). It will not work! The active ingredients are the same but the dilutions are different. Coverage of 100-300 sq metres is exactly the same for both products. Common coverage is about 100-150 sq metres when used on ‘absorbent’ porous surfaces. Clean Your Pavers, Concrete & Sandstone with Rapid Application   Attach your hose, turn to ON and off you go!  No mixing! No measuring! No mess!  Choose a cool, dry day to apply it.  Saturate the dry surface you are cleaning with the Rapid Application.  No rain for the first 12 hours - Then, just watch the surface come clean over time.  Only one application! (except in extreme cases of heavy contamination).       Read more about Rapid Application and how to buy this moss and mould remover.   Clean Your Pavers, Concrete & Sandstone with Wet & Forget  Dilute 1:5 (1 part Wet & Forget to 5 parts water) in your garden sprayer. Choose a cool, dry day to apply it.  Saturate the dry surface you are cleaning with the diluted Wet & Forget.  No rain for the first 12 hours - Then, just watch the surface come clean over time.  Only one application! (except in extreme cases of heavy contamination).  You can use it safely on almost any exterior surface because there is no bleach in our product. No bleach means an unlimited shelf life. Contains a special surfactant to give a more even dispersal. It also helps the product grip onto vertical surfaces. Read more about Wet & Forget concentrate or buy online.                     Helpful Hints: Total saturation of the surface with this product is essential in order to obtain a good kill of the moss, mould, lichen, algae and fungi. Make sure the surface is dry in order to get the best penetration of the growth with the least amount of evaporation. If the surface is particularly bad, do a second application, approximately one month after the first application. After the initial application use as a maintenance tool. Only re-apply at the first sign of regrowth. __________________________________________________________________________

Wet & Forget: Safe around Pets, Plants, and Lawns

Wet & Forget: Safe around Pets, Plants, and Lawns

Pets When spraying your outdoor areas, make sure you keep pets off the surface area whilst the area is wet.  Once the Wet & Forget has completely dried, it is safe for pets to walk on the surface area.  If your pet accidentally walks or sits in the product, immediately wash off the product with fresh water so they do not ingest the Wet & Forget. Plants Wet & Forget is okay to use around plants provided certain protective steps are taken. When spraying the product near plants, make sure to either cover them with a tarpaulin (or something similar) or alternatively, wash the plants down with water before and after applying the product nearby. The leaves of the plant may experience a slight discolouration or spot burn if they come into contact with the product for an extended period. Lawns Did you know Wet & Forget can be used in your lawn to kill the moss! Firstly, lightly water the lawn but do not saturate it.  Do this late in the day when the sun is low so that evaporation is kept to a minimum.  Dilution rate is 1 part Wet & Forget to 7 parts water, spot spray the moss.  You may have to give it a couple of goes until you have it under control.  At worst you may get slight burning on the grass, however, it will recover quickly.  Winter is the best time to treat your moss as the lawn is dormant and there is very little sun.  Once the moss is dead and decomposed, give your lawn a good fertilise ready for new growth.   To shop or read more about Wet & Forget, click here. __________________________________________________________________________

Is your pool ready for summer?

Is your pool ready for summer?

Wet & Forget is what you need to get rid of mould around your pool! Wet & Forget will treat any biological growth. That is: moss, mould, algae and lichen. The unsightly green or black growth that is often found around the pool is easy to treat. Simply dilute the Wet & Forget into a pump action garden sprayer, spray the dry surface area to the point of saturation, make sure there is no rain for 12 hours and allow the weathering to do the rest! For lichen growth, saturate the area with diluted Wet & Forget, wait 15 minutes, then saturate the area a second time. This allows Wet & Forget to breakdown the top layer and penetrate right through the lichen. Green moss and algae growth will take a couple of weeks to fully decompose. Black mould will take a good 4-6 months to fully decompose. Lichen growth will take 9-12 months to fully decompose. Wet & Forget is suitable for all types of pool surrounds that are covered in mould, moss, algae or lichen such as concrete, ceramic tiles, stone tiles, sandstone, pavers, timber, brick and painted surface areas. Because Wet & Forget is nearly PH neutral, any overspray will not change your pool's PH. Don't forget the poolside furniture that may be covered in black mould or slimy green algae! Suitable to apply on all types of outdoor furniture, plastic, timber, stone/concrete, wrought iron and aluminium. Have your outdoor cushions, plastic pool lounges and pool noodles gone mouldy? Simply Wet & Forget them, make sure you thoroughly rinse all the residual off prior to using them in or out of the pool. Save time scrubbing and spend more time swimming! Common House Spiders you may See Around your Home

Common House Spiders you may See Around your Home

As freaky looking as we may find them, spiders are actually fantastic for the environment - they keep all the other creepy crawlies and bugs in check! However, we can all agree that they are hardly something that we would like in our homes. Imagine waking up to a Huntsman spider on the wall right next to you! Ugh! Miss Muffet’s Revenge is great in that it helps keep spiders out, without having to kill them. This way, as a spider repellent, they can still help contribute to the local ecosystem. However, it is important to recognize which spider is which, and what they do. So we have compiled a handy list of the most common house spiders you may find around your home, how to identify them and what they do.    1. White-Tailed Spider These guys are found all throughout Australia and are most recognizable by the white tip on the end of their abdomen. For those who have not seen one before, they are actually very small! Females are no longer than 2cm, while males are much smaller at only 1.3cm. White-tailed spiders are normally found underneath barks, rocks, leaf litter and logs in bushland and around the home and garden. If you are to find one accidentally wander in to your home, it will generally be during late summer to early autumn and can be found any kinds of nooks and crannies that may attract their prey. White-tail spiders are great to have around as they actually prey on insects as well as other spiders including daddy-long-legs, redbacks and black house spiders. They are most active at night, as this is when their various prey is out hunting. 2. Black House Spider The Black House spider is often mistaken for the infamous Funnel Web spider! However, it is actually far smaller (1-1.5cm), dwells in very different areas, and is in a completely different category of spider! So if the spider you are looking at looks like a Funnel Web, but is sitting in a cobweb likely situated in the corner of a window or skylight, you are looking at a Black House spider! Black House spiders are not native to Australia but were accidentally introduced many years ago from Europe and can now be find Australia-wide. Black House spiders form untidy, lacey sheets as their webs. They are often found on tree trunks, logs, rock walls, and buildings. They are most commonly found in urban areas (hence the name ‘house’ spider!) in spots like the dark corners of windows, verandahs, sheds, fences, porch ceilings, window frames and crevices. Their webs often trap pesky insects that are trying to get into your home.  3. Brown House Spider (Cupboard spider) The Brown House spider is an overly bulbous-looking spider, that looks like a sphere with legs attached (very much like a Redback spider – in fact they are often mistaken as such!). They are found Australia-wide and can reach up to 1.2cm in length. These spiders prefer dark, undisturbed areas to hang out (such is the name Cupboard Spider!). The Brown House spider builds untidy, tangled webs which can be found in areas such as under rocks, timber piles, bark, on walls, under eaves, around garage doors, among old furniture and junk stored in sheds or garages, under garden benches, around compost bins, in upturned flower pots and among leaves on trees and shrubs – so pretty much everywhere!. 4. Daddy Long Legs Spider Daddy Long Legs spiders are some of the most fragile looking of spiders with their legs seeming far too long for the rest of their body! If you ever had a fascination with spiders as a child, this is likely the one you may have been brave enough to touch or handle. They are found Australia-wide and are between 0.7-0.9cm long. Daddy Long Legs are often found in and around human habitation including houses, garages and sheds and feed on insects and other spiders. They form spindly, flimsy webs which can often go unnoticed. 5. Garden Orb Weaving Spider The Garden Orb Weaving spider is one that you are likely to have encountered when working in an area with a large amount of foliage, possibly by walking right into the web! Garden Orb Weaving spiders spin their webs in areas that are prime spots for catching flying insects and spin them as large as 3m wide, which unfortunately means they are usually in our path. You may notice that their webs are usually empty during the day, and this is because the Garden Orb Weaving spider will hide in the adjoining foliage during the daylight hours and build their web at night. This is why when you remove one web, you are likely to find another not far from it the next day! These spiders are found Australia-wide and are between 2-3cm in length when full grown. They are most often found in the garden or hanging from rafters and roof overhangs. 6. Saint Andrew’s Cross Spider The Saint Andrew’s Cross spider is actually quite a pretty spider – with a yellow and brown Aztec-painting style pattern on its abdomen, and its eight legs folded to look like four when it is relaxing in its web – a web that is famous for zig-zagging ‘ribbons’ that form a cross-like shape in the center. These zig-zags apparently reflect UV light in order to attract insects! The Saint Andrew’s Cross spider has a body length of 1-1.5cm, and is normally found in webs spun within low, shrubby vegetation. This spider is found Australia-wide. 7. Huntsman Spider The Huntsman spider is one of the quintessential Australian spiders – found Australia-wide and most famous for looking the most alien out of all the Aussie spiders! Huntsman spiders are more likely to be found in and around the home as they do not construct webs – they are, as the name suggests – a hunting spider! They will wander around at night in search of prey. Huntsman spiders generally have a body length between 2-3cm, however their legs can reach up to 6cm long (one particular species reaches 20cm long!). They are generally found under the flaking bark of trees, under flat rocks, under eaves, within roof spaces, and sometimes on the walls inside of homes. Huntsman spiders are extremely timid and can rocket away from you as fast as 1 metre per second! Huntsman spiders are great to have around as they help control local insect populations and will occasionally eat other spiders. 8. Wolf Spider Wolf Spiders are very similar to Huntsman spiders, in that they are roving, nocturnal hunters who can move really fast! They are found Australia-wide, and normally found amongst moss and decaying ground-matter. Unlike the Huntsman spider, these guys stick to the ground and are likely to be spotted in and around your garden or lawn, particularly amongst leafy debris. The Wolf Spider is nocturnal and wanders around in search of prey during the night. Wolf Spiders have a body length of between 1.5-3cm in length and are characterized by their thick stripes on the front of their body and on their abdomen. Wolf Spiders enjoy a diet of insects and other small, ground-dwelling critters, and have even been recorded taking out cane toads! 9. Redback Spider The Redback Spider is one of the most renowned Aussie spiders and is found Australia-wide. Almost all of us will have seen one at some stage as they just adore urban areas and all the good things that comes with them – good sources of food, sheltered spots for building webs, and fewer predators. Redback Spiders can be found almost anywhere around the home, including but not limited to window-sills, outdoor BBQs, letterboxes, roof eaves, sheds, outdoor toys and cubbies, garden shrubbery and flower pots. Redback Spiders will eat almost anything they can catch – insects, lizards, skinks, and even other larger spiders. Female Redbacks can grow up to 1cm in length and can sometimes be hard to notice due to this small size and their secluded hiding spots. Redback Spiders (female only) are most easily identified by their pea-shaped abdomen that sports an orange-red stripe down the middle.  10. Funnel Web Spider Funnel Web spiders are generally exclusive to the East coast of Australia (including parts of Tasmania). They can typically be identified by a black or brownish glossy body and legs with indentations that give it the look of wearing armour, and they sport robust, velvety black/brown abdomens. Spiders that are often confused with Funnel Webs are Trapdoor spiders, Mouse spiders, Wishbone Spiders and Black House Spiders. While some of the 30 odd species of Funnel Web Spiders are considered dangerous, the most notorious and dangerous is the Sydney Funnel Web spider. Male Sydney Funnel Webs are the most dangerous, having been responsible for several deaths prior to the development of the anti-venene in 1981. This is because during the warmer months of the year (November-April) male Funnel Webs wander about at night looking for females in their burrows. Males wandering in suburban gardens may sometimes become trapped inside houses or garages, especially those with concrete slab foundations where entry points under doors are easily reached. They may also wander into pools, where they can survive for up to 2 days. If you see a large, dark black spider in your pool it is safest to assume that it is a living Funnel Web! Funnel Webs are not partial to entering your house (as common myth suggests) but instead burrow in moist, cool, sheltered habitats - under rocks, in and under rotting logs, crevices, rot and borer holes in rough-barked trees. In gardens, they prefer rockeries and dense shrubberies, and are rarely found in more open situations like lawns.  The most characteristic sign of a Funnel Web's burrow is the irregular silk trip-lines that radiate out from the burrow entrance of most species. These trip-lines alert the spider to possible prey, mates or danger. Funnel Webs rush out of their burrow when potential prey, such as beetles, cockroaches, small lizards or snails, walk across the trip-lines that the spider has placed around the outside of its burrow. They then return to their burrow to eat their meal. Rain may flood burrows (where females dwell) and the temporary retreats of male Funnel Webs, causing an increase in their activity. Funnel Webs are very vulnerable to drying out, so high humidity is more favourable to activity outside the burrow than dry conditions. Most activity is nocturnal. Gardeners and people digging in soil may encounter Funnel-webs in burrows at any time of the year.   Important All spiders in this blog (except Funnel Webs), if you are comfortable doing so, should be caught and released back outside if possible if they enter your home. Funnel Web spiders (if possible to do so safely) should be caught and taken to a collection point for the Australian Reptile Park’s venom milking program. Did you know: they are the only licensed procurer of Funnel Web venom in the country! *Never put yourself or others in harm’s way in order to catch or photograph a dangerous spider! We have compiled a list of the best customer tips that have been sent to us for both Shower Witch and Wet & Forget! Let us know if you have any more to add to the list! Shower Witch Pre-Wash Stain Remover For Clothes Simply, spray the stain and wash in your normal wash (not recommended for delicate fabrics). Some customer have used it to remove food stains on chef uniforms and stained collars on business shirts! Metal Rims On Your Tyres Do your tyre rims get black?  Simply spray the metal rims only, watch the grease dissolve, with a simple wipe/wash down with soapy water, the rims are sparkling clean once again! Venetian Blinds & Shutters To clean the venetian blinds either, spray and wipe the Shower Witch on the surface, alternatively, spray a cloth or paper towel with Shower Witch and wipe the surface down. If there is a build-up of sticky grime, a second wipe down may be necessary. Grease Build-Up On Your Kitchen Cupboards Quite often we cook and cook and cook without realising the build-up of all the cooking fumes end up creating a very thick, sticky film on top of the kitchen cupboards and on top of the fridge. This is where Shower Witch can help! Simply spray, and leave for a few minutes, then wipe it off. If the build-up is very thick, repeat the process for a second time. You will be amazed at how quick, easy and clean the surface will be! Filters In Your Exhaust Fans The filters in your exhaust fans above the stove or BBQ are always overlooked. How often do you look up and see the yellow orange muck only to ignore it because it's too hard and too big a job! Our customer feedback is that it's easy with Shower Witch! Take the filters out, place them in a deep sink, laundry sink is often the best place. Spray with Shower Witch, leave for a couple of hours or so and then scrub them in warm soapy water. If the build-up is extreme , repeat the process until it comes clean. Alternatively, instead of scrubbing in warm soapy water, pop them in the dishwasher! Stainless Steel Stainless steel surfaces can be a real pain to clean! Not with Shower Witch! Use it to keep your stainless steel benchtops and sinks super clean, just spray and wipe.  Stainless Steel BBQ hoods also become very dirty from cooking and general outdoor climatic conditions, just spray and wipe!  Fly Screens Another customer says her fly screens are no longer a job she puts off doing! Take the flyscreen off, spray some Shower Witch onto a cloth and wipe the flyscreen with the cloth then wash off! Yes, it's that simply to do! General Purpose Spray And Wipe Our customers that have a very busy life, with children and pets running around the house, opening and closing doors, playing inside and outside the house. There are often sticky, dirty little fingers touching the doors, bench tops and cupboards doors. Just spray those dirty marks on the walls, doors, cupboards and bench tops with Shower Witch, wipe off and watch the surface come clean before your very eyes!  Shower Witch is perfect to use as an everyday spray and wipe on most surface areas throughout the house.  Jewellery Cleaner "I know it sounds ridiculous but it's true, Shower Witch is the best jewellery cleaner, ever!!"  This was a message we received from a regular customer, she was using Shower Witch to do her usual shower and bathroom cleaning and realised when she finished the jewellery she was wearing was sparkling clean. She then decided to clean her jewellery with Shower Witch! Soak jewellery in a small dish filled with Shower Witch for 10 minutes, give it a light scrub with a toothbrush and wow, so sparkly clean! (only use on metal jewellery, do not use on pearls) Dishwasher & Washing Machine We have all seen the build-up of scum in our dishwasher and washing machine! Simply, spray the inside of the dishwasher and/or washing machine with Shower Witch, (make sure the dishwasher and washing machine is empty). Leave it overnight and then put the dishwasher and washing machine on a hot wash cycle. So easy, so clean!    To shop or read about Shower Witch, click here.   Wet & Forget  Smelly Sneakers/Running Shoes Simply dilute half a cup of Wet & Forget concentrate + 2 tablespoons of baking soda into a bucket of warm water. Completely submerge your sneakers/running shoes into the bucket of water, leave overnight (24hours), thoroughly rinse and dry them ready to wear. The Wet & Forget will kill the bacteria in your running shoes that is causing your sneakers to smell! (Some poor quality glues may come off). Curtains Lightly mist the back of the curtains (plastic backed curtains only) with Wet & Forget before they get mouldy at the start of Winter. If they are already mouldy it won't get rid of the mould, however, it will kill the spores. Always do a test area to ensure that the curtain is dye fast. Towels Did you know bacteria breeds on wet towels! We also pass on bacteria through using the same hand towels or bath towels! The best way to sanitise your towels is to put 2 capfuls of Wet & Forget concentrate in with the towels on the initial wash, when you are washing them.  Not only will they smell nice, the Wet & Forget will kill the bacteria, therefore, sterilising them ready to use!  Smelly Drains Do you have smelly drains? Most often smelly vanity, shower, bath and floor drains have a build-up of soap scum, body fats and bacterial growth that cause the drain to have an offensive smell! Simply pour or spray some diluted Wet & Forget (1:5) down the drains, leave for an hour or more and then rinse with hot water. The scum and grime will be cleaned up, more importantly the bacteria will be killed! If you have a sceptic system Wet & Forget is not suitable because it will kill the bacteria. Washing Machine Spray diluted Wet & Forget into the drum, agitator and filter of an empty washing machine, leave overnight and then turn the washing machine on a hot wash cycle. The build-up of scum and dirt will be washed away! Car Windscreen Wash Simply place 50mls in windscreen washer bottle. Then use the windscreen washer, or if bad webbing is evident, squirt some Wet & Forget directly onto the windscreen. Lichen On Trees Dilute the Wet & Forget 1 to 7. Only spray in Autumn or Winter when the trees are dormant.  Be aware that certain species of lichen will die on the surface and not change colour, so they need to be brushed off (avoid any overspray on the leaves, as they will spot burn).   To shop or read about Wet & Forget, click here. __________________________________________________________________________
